The Netherland Dwarf was originally imported into Britain in 1948 from Holland. The breed was standardised by the British Rabbit Council in 1949.
The Netherland today enjoys good popularity both in the show ring and also as a pet being that it is available in most colours!
Netherlands have a great character and are easy to keep although they can, at times, be difficult to handle especially if they have been startled. However, they are great showmen and Buttons, my marten sable buck, has even been known to kiss the judge. Sorry Buttons, but for all your trying, you didn’t come first that day!
Netherland Dwarfs usually weigh approximately 2lbs and although they are often thought of as being a children’s pet they can be unpredictable. A Netherland Dwarf is a showman and can be easily trained to show of its good points.
