The first french lop is said to have been bred in 1853 in France, however, it was only as late as 1965 did the breed become recognised in Britain as a show breed thanks to the efforts of Meg Brown.

French Lops can only be considered by anybody to be large, and are often mistaken as a cuddly fluffy rabbit. Indeed, on the whole they do have a docile nature, but are not necessarily keen on the idea of cuddles.

Our own french lops vary from the quiet silent type to the active joker. Our house rabbit, Summer, will sleep in all types of poses, and is so quiet that we regularly have to check that she is truly sleeping!

Above all else, frenchies love attention. They like interaction and are definitely not for the person that wants a rabbit at the bottom of the garden, nor are they a child’s rabbit, as they are powerful and if they do not want to do something, a child will struggle to deal with a stubborn bunny. They require effort, but are truly rewarding if you are willing to put the time in, providing affection and character.
